With the big success (both commercially and critically) of The Beatles Remastered Box Sets last year, there are high expectations for the new Lennon Signature Box which includes all of his solo albums digitally remastered from his original mixes for the very first time. This box also contains a CD with all of Lennon's non-album singles and another CD with previously unreleased material.
While I certainly do not think John Lennon's solo recordings matched up to the incredible stuff he did while a member of The Beatles, that is not meant as a slight against his solo career because he did record a lot of great solo songs. It's just that The Beatles classic albums are a pretty difficult accomplishment to outdo.
I'm quite hopeful that the Lennon Signature Box's sound quality is as good as the sound quality on the discs in The Beatles in Stereo box set last year. I was (and still am) very impressed by the job the sound engineers did with those in keeping the original analog warmth and much of the dynamics that help make those songs such classics.
What follows are the eight Lennon solo studio albums included in the Lennon Signature Box:
1970 - Plastic Ono Band
1971 - Imagine
1972 - Somewhere in NYC
1973 - Mind Games
1974 - Walls and Bridges
1975 - Rock 'n' Roll
1980 - Double Fantasy
1984 - Milk and Honey
As I already mentioned this box set will also include a CD with his non-album songs like "Power To The People," "Move Over Ms. L," and "Give Peace A Chance."
Probably most interesting to hardcore fans fans who already have all of these songs (but not digitally remastered, of course) is the CD which features previously unheard recordings of songs like "I Don't Want To Be A Soldier," "One Of The Boys," "Serve Yourself," and "Love."
