The Future Is Now With Movie Downloading

By Vernon Rivers

The days of walking into a brick and mortar video store to rent a DVD or BluRay may be over quicker than you know. The rise of movie downloads for the general public has been increasingly popular to both the consumer and to companies that provide them. Movie downloads have the advantage of allowing consumers their freedom when it comes to watching their movies, regardless of place or time. Companies are also jumping at the bit, because of it's low cost model.

Movie viewership has always been a staple of entertainment. Movies have replaced plays and novels as the primary form of entertainment to the general viewing public. Movies have been taking our breaths away ever since the first moving picture appeared on the silver screen.

The growth of the movie download market is attributed by many to high speed internet availability. Before the days of DSL and Cable a dial up modem was all we had to download. Downloads at this speed would be too slow. Renting a DVD was simpler and easier. Technology has allowed us to all have readily accessible high speed internet, allowing many American's the ability to download large movie files.

There are several venues that are available to download movies. One of which is directly from satellite and cable providers through your TV set. Many companies now, including Direct TV and Comcast, allow downloading of movies through your cable box. You can simply press a few buttons on your remote and streaming high quality movies are downloaded straight into your living room.

Some websites are beginning to allow movie downloads directly from their site for a fee. Netflix is one of these websites. They offer the ability to download movies from their site instead of mailing your movies in. This allows customers to watch movies whenever they want as well as wherever they want. Traditionally, their customers would have to be home to receive the DVD in the mail, watch it and return it to the mailbox. This is not the case with movie downloads. Simply download the movie, even if you are in a hotel room or a library with an internet connection.

Another alternatives is the usage of streaming websites to download movies. One example is Hulu. They offer free television shows as well as movies free on their site. The only drawback is that you have a watch a few commercials. The good thing is that the movies are great quality and can be watched if you have access to a internet connection. TV shows and movies have found this to be a good outlet to widen their viewership.

Companies are starting to pick up on the movie download business. Understanding that movie downloads cut down on their costs is a large factor in many movie rental companies starting to develop websites and servers allowing for online viewership. No longer do they need to pay the high rental costs as well as the purchasing of discs. Instead they have one file on one server and allow the pure profit business model take it's course.

Knowing this, there are many alternatives to renting, buying or simply going to the movies. Downloading movies may be a cheaper alternative for entertainment for the whole family. Other companies are beginning to realize that this emerging market is something that they can capitalize on and many more are sure to dive into the fray. - 40729
